Gifts For Birders

Wondering what gift to give the birder in your family? With the holiday season upon us, I decided to write a post that will help you with this decision. These ideas, such as bird books, field guides, birdfeeders, birdbaths, scopes, binoculars, and cameras, come from my personal experiences in birdwatching and I have either used or considered using all of the products on this page. All of these products are available at most book stores, birding stores, etc, or you can get all of them at one place, Amazon.com
If you have no idea what the birder already owns or don’t know where to begin, you can always give a gift card from Amazon.com and let them decide what to get.
If you would rather your gift be a little more personable, bird books or field guides are a great place to start.
Most birders want to attract birds to their backyard. Birdfeeders and birdbaths are a great way to do just that.
The hardest part of birdwatching is getting close enough to the bird for a good closeup. Spotting scopes and binoculars are a great gift for any birder.
The more serious birder, like myself, would probably want a camera to document sightings and maybe even post them on the internet. This gift can be expensive, so make sure the camera you choose is capable of what it will be used for. If it will be used for documenting sightings or to take pictures to share with family and friends, a point and shoot camera will do the trick. If the camera will be used for more professional purposes, such as posting on the internet, etc, you may want to consider a DSLR camera, which depending on what model you choose, can be quite costly. For more information about which camera is right for your birder, check out these articles at OutdoorPhotographer.com
Any of these items will make a great gift for any birder. As a matter of fact, I am giving some of these gifts to my family and friends that are already into or have shown an interest in birdwatching.
I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry CHRISTmas. Yea, that’s right, I put Christ in Christmas!
